Dry Body Brush Description

This natural bristle dry body brush pairs a smooth, natural wooden handle with medium-firm, natural boar bristles — designed to gently buff away dry, dull skin. Compact enough to hold comfortably in one hand, it's sized for full-body use from shoulders to soles, and finished with nothing but wood and bristle. No plastic, no synthetic fibres, no shortcuts.

Part of the Econique ritual-building edit — for the person who wants their self-care to feel considered, not clinical.

Intended use:

Full-body dry brushing prior to bathing or showering. Not intended for use on the face, broken or irritated skin, or immediately after sun exposure or hair removal.

Pair it with the ENOUGH Body Scrub or a Gesalfde body oil to complete your showering or bathing ritual — spend R750 and shipping is on us.

What Is Dry Body Brushing?

Dry body brushing is the simple practice of sweeping a medium to stiff, natural bristle body brush over completely dry skin — before you shower or bathe. It's an old ritual (with roots in Ayurvedic practice) that's found its way back into modern self-care routines for one good reason: it works, gently and honestly, without needing anything more than a brush and a few minutes.

THE BENEFITS

  • Exfoliation, properly done improves the skin’s texture. This is one benefit backed by real evidence — the natural bristles lift away dry, flaky skin cells, leaving skin instantly smoother and more receptive to the products you apply afterwards.
  • A grounding ritual. Used before showering, it's two minutes that ask you to slow down and be in your body — many people find it genuinely energising.
  • Skin that looks brighter. Buffing away dead skin cells reveals the healthier skin beneath, which often looks more even and radiant.
  • A boost to your routine, not a fix-all. Some people find the dry brushing motion — always toward the heart — feels similar to a light massage. It may assist with lymphatic drainage and detoxification. There isn't good evidence for cellulite improvement, and we'd rather you trust us on the things we can actually promise.

HOW OFTEN TO DRY BRUSH

2–3 times a week is a good starting point for most skin types. Those with a regular tolerance may enjoy it daily; if your skin is sensitive, sunburnt, freshly shaved, or irritated, skip it until it's settled. Always brush before bathing, never on wet skin, and never over broken skin, rashes, or active breakouts.

How To Use Your Body Brush

A simple five-step ritual to build into your morning.

1.  Start dry.

Use the body brush before showering — on completely dry skin, dry hands. Never on wet or damp skin.

2.  Begin at your feet.

Using light, firm pressure, brush in long strokes upward — always moving toward your heart.

3.  Work upward, section by section.

Move from ankles to knees, knees to thighs, then hands to shoulders. Use small circular motions over knees, elbows, and any rougher patches.

4.  Brush your torso gently.

Use lighter pressure across your stomach and chest, brushing in gentle upward and inward strokes. Avoid the face and any sensitive or broken skin.

5.  Rinse and moisturise.

Shower or bathe as normal to rinse away loosened skin, then apply body oil or moisturiser to newly-exposed, receptive skin — this is where an ENOUGH or Gesalfde body oil finishes the ritual beautifully.

Caring For Your Body Brush

A little care keeps your brush hygienic and long-lasting.

  • Tap out loose skin cells and debris after each use.
  • Wash the natural bristles every 1–2 weeks: swirl briefly in lukewarm, soapy water — avoid soaking the wooden handle, as prolonged water exposure can cause it to crack or warp.
  • Shake off excess water and lay flat or bristle-side down to air dry completely before storing or reusing.
  • Store in a dry, ventilated spot — not in a sealed container or steamy bathroom cabinet — to prevent mould or mildew forming in the bristles.
  • Avoid harsh detergents, dishwashers, or submerging the handle — natural wood is not dishwasher safe.
  • Replace your brush roughly every 6–12 months, or sooner if bristles become worn, splayed, or shed excessively.
